It’s always good to set a challenge just to give you that extra push to do something. A challenge that Fiona and I have set ourselves this year is to run a race in every month of the year. It’s May the 10th now and – we’re on target.
We would normally race in 9, 10 or even 11 months of the year anyway, but by setting this challenge for ourselves it will, at some point in the year, get us out of the house on a cold wet day when we might otherwise have stayed indoors. It is also providing us with the fun of planning ahead a bit more than we normally would. Summer takes care of itself as there are so many races that we always do, but which ones will we enter in October, November and December?
Yesterday evening was the Dumyat Hill Race at Stirling University. Despite the dreich weather this morning, yesterday’s race was held in perfect conditions and the view (in that rare moment when you could briefly look up from your running shoes) from the summit was amazing. Dumyat therefore counts as the May race, but as well as keeping us on target towards our 2012 race every month challenge, it was also a fantastic race and a great evening to be out enjoying Scotland’s great outdoors.
So far, this year’s races towards the challenge have been:
January Blairgowrie New Year’s Day Race
February Devilla Forest Trail Race
March Errol 6k Race
April Newtyle Hill Race
May Dumyat Hill Race
